![]() ![]() I used to only really go for the fastest release, slowest attack, push-the-source-right-into-your-face sound. From what I've read in this thread, that's not a terribly popular plug, but hey, it works for me! It's kind of an old friend at this point. I haven't tried all of the other emulations, but I like it better than the ones I have tried. I've been using it for so long I know how it works and kinda feel like, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". The only 1176 plug I use is the Bombfactory. Depending on the tune, there could be several instances of it, or there could be none. That doesn't mean I use 1176s on every mix tho. What I use it for: vocals, various components of a drumkit including parallel compression, piano, acoustic guitar, bass, percussion.shoot, pretty much everything except the mixbus. I like the sound of the unit with those settings, and if I'm looking for something different, I will reach for a different comp. If I don't use an 1176 with the attack at 12 oclock and the release as fast as it'll go, I won't use an 1176, and I don't recall having changed the ratio on any of the 1176s at my disposal (both real and plugin) for at least a decade.I just leave it at 4:1. Wish they would add the rest of the unit to that model! The Pulsar smasher nails the one setting it has, but I usually don't need that extreme of a setting. UAD is probably the best, but I don't have UAD as part of my home rig I've been mixing on since the beginning of the pandemic. I have yet to find a blue stripe plugin that really nails what the hardware does. I use it a ton on guitars, keys, and backing vocals. Makes vocals sound incredible, and just work perfectly in a mix.Īs far as plugins, I think the Purple MC77 from plugin alliance is the best blackface 1176 plugin right now. Haven't changed the setting in over two years: 4:1 ratio, slowest attack, fastest release, Input at -30, output at -18. It's main two uses are vocal tracking and as a hardware insert on my lead vocal when mixing. I actually like it better than the 4 real blue stripes I've used over the years (which all sounded noticeably different from each other!). I have the hairball blue stripe clone with the upgraded cap kit. Helps us keep the sub clean by reporting posts and comments that are in fault.
